One Worship - Together
We know that many churches now have two services on Sundays - one traditional and one contemporary.
As a congregation, we decided some time ago that worshiping together was more important than dividing up into styles of "how we worship."
So every Sunday, we gather for just one service that is both rooted in long-standing tradition AND highlighted with contemporary touches.
We have a large and very dynamic choir that sings the old favorites, but also mixes things up with new selections. We often have solo performers who share their gifts and we sometimes have a contemporary band play.
Our time of worship never goes by without a surprise. We find ourselves laughing and crying together as we share in life's journey together.
Often, it is the children's time that is one of the most unpredictable moments as they are always an integral part of the service.
Joy always finds its way into our worship.
When everything is said and done it all comes down to the Holy Spirit. With our whole heart and soul we call on the Holy Spirit to come into our worship and move us beyond the challenges of our life and into the presence of the Lord. If you wish to open your heart and give your life in service to the Lord, you have found home with us.

Special Services
BaptismsIn the sacrament of Baptism we become one with Christ. Baptism is the only requirement to become a member of our church.
In an infant baptism we adopt the child into our church family and raise them in the love and passion of Christ. Young parishioners, approximately 13 years old, enter into a time of training and reflection to reaffirm their baptism. Others may come into our faith as adults and make the decision to be baptized and give themselves to Christ in heart, mind and body. To schedule a baptism, please contact the church office at (618) 458-6940 We have a wide array of Bible study groups to fit our parishioners demographics and interests. Our Bible study groups examine the historical circumstances of scripture and seek practical applications of the Bible in everyday life. |
Weddings
Those wishing to be married at St. John UCC are required to meet with the Pastor for at least two premarital counseling sessions. These sessions are typically 1 ½-2 hours each and provide time for the Pastor and couple to discuss marriage and plan the wedding ceremony. Weddings are a long-standing tradition in the church and our parish is truly a beautiful setting for the ceremony. Visit the Facility Rental page to find about more about fees and facility usage guidelines. |
Funerals
Traditional funerals and/or memorial services are held at our church or at the funeral home. These services acknowledge the involvement of God in our lives and in death. We believe that all things begin and end with our Lord. If you need grief counseling, Pastor is available to assist. To schedule a funeral or funeral luncheon, please contact the church office at (618) 458-6940 |
